Best wallets for men (2026)
From minimalist cardholders to classic leather bifolds, these men's wallets balance style, function, and durability.
Wallets are an everyday essential, which puts them in the category of things we think are worth investing in. The best wallets for men are slim enough to fit in your pocket with just enough space to hold your cards and cash.
Over the last few years, we've tested dozens of wallets. The majority of our testers prefer a simple, leather billfold wallet that fits cleanly in their pocket. The Bellroy Apex Slim Sleeve is our top pick for those exact reasons. It has a sleek, minimal exterior and a design with everything you need, including a few easy-to-access card slots, cash storage, and a casing that snaps shut with a satisfying magnetic clasp.
While wallets are universal, men's wallets are designed to be kept in pockets instead of purses or bags. If you're looking for larger styles, you can check out our guide to the best women's wallets.
Our top 4 picks for the best wallets for men
How we tested men's wallets
We used real-world testing, crowdsourced interviews, and extensive research (including reading hundreds of customer comments) to create our guide to the best wallets for men. Our testing included using wallets for weeks at a time in our own daily lives to assess convenience, card access, and the overall carrying experience. We also relied on feedback from our teammates, who shared insights about their preferences for pocket-friendly wallet features. Beyond materials, design elements, and craftsmanship, we also considered value when determining what made it into this guide. Ultimately, we feel strongly that expensive, designer wallets aren't worth it.
Best overall: Bellroy Apex Slim Sleeve
The Bellroy Apex Slim Sleeve is our top pick as the best men's wallet because it ticks nearly every box for convenience, aesthetics, and special features. This RFID-protected wallet is about two-thirds the length of an iPhone, which is what we would consider a mid-sized option. There are smaller ones on this list, but this is the size that will work for most people.
The sleek profile slips easily into front and back pockets, and its leather has aged gracefully over the past two years that we've used it. Because of its firm leather shell casing, it can be packed full and still feels slim.

The checkout experience is so much easier when your wallet has everything you need in your palm. You can open it using one hand with a side squeeze, and the wallet's card slots are easy to access thanks to a pull tab that prevents cards from getting stuck. It clasps firmly shut with a gratifying magnetic snap. It's genuinely a pleasure to use and feels worth its cost, plus the brand offers a three-year warranty on all of its products.

Best monogrammed: Leatherology Bifold Wallet
Leatherology specializes in high-quality leather goods without the designer markup. While the brand sells everything from handbags to duffel bags, its wallets are what stand out most. Leatherology's monogramming options also make them great for gifting.
After carrying it for about 6 months, our favorite style is the full-grain leather Bifold Wallet because of its classic design and somewhat reasonable price at under $100. Overall, the wallet checks off almost all of the boxes for a dependable wallet to carry on a daily basis. It's made of a premium leather that's built for the long haul, it has plenty of space for cards and cash, and the monogram is a special touch that I appreciated every time I looked at my wallet.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
I was very impressed with the leather quality, stitching, and overall construction of the wallet. The smooth leather itself has held up well with use and hasn't shown much in the way of creasing.
The only area where it falls a bit short is comfort and ease to carry. While I prefer wallets that are tall enough to keep cash completely concealed, the Leatherology Bifold is too tall for some pockets. It didn't fit in the front pocket of all of my pants, so I was often limited to only carrying it in my back pocket or my jacket pocket.
During the time I carried it, the leather held up well and the monogram did not flake or chip off.
Best slim leather: Bellroy Slim Sleeve Wallet
If a perfectly slim, simple leather wallet is what you're after, this is our top pick. It's definitely best for those who don't carry a ton of cash, though it does have space for a small stack of folded-up bills.
Bellroy's Slim Sleeve wallet minimizes excess material and maintains a slim profile inside your pocket. There are no buckles, trimmings, snaps, buttons, or fasteners. The only materials are leather and thread, with as little of each used as possible.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
The bifold style can hold up to 12 cards in three pockets if you stuff them in, but it's best for people who don't carry that many cards at a time. The two quick-access card slots inside the wallet are perfect for your everyday credit card or commuter pass — I can easily pull out my most used card without having to take the wallet out of my pocket.
As far as materials go, the Slim Sleeve's leather quality is excellent, soft yet sturdy, and ages with a nice patina. It comes in several colors.
Best minimalistic leather: Bellroy Hide & Seek Low Wallet
Unless you live in or frequently travel to places with taller bills (like Euros or British Pounds), the Hide & Seek Low is one of the best all-around designs for minimalists. It's designed for carrying more cash than the Slim Sleeve wallet mentioned above, but it still keeps things pretty simple.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
I've been carrying it daily for 6 months, and it's become my favorite wallet I've ever used. While it's not as slim as a money clip or a cardholder, I've been able to comfortably carry it in my back pocket, front pocket, and even in the chest pockets of suits and tuxedos. The overall design of the wallet has helped me minimize what I carry, which also helps keep the wallet slim.
On the left, you'll get quick, visible access to your most-used card, but there's another slot behind it for additional cards you may not use all the time. On the right, I have plenty of room for important cards I always need but don't have to pull out daily, like my license, insurance, and AAA cards. I was able to fit the 12 cards and 6 bills with plenty of room for more cash.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when my cash sticks out of the top of a wallet when it's folded. With this one, all of the bills stay neatly tucked in thanks to a flap that keeps your money hidden and out of the way. And, there's even a small coin purse, which seems to be a rare feature on a men's wallet these days.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
After 6 months, the smooth leather is still in excellent condition and free of any concerning wear marks. I've used several other Bellroy wallets for extended periods of time while testing for this guide, so this one is holding up well, as I expected it to.
Best for lots of cards: The Ridge Wallet
This wallet isn't for everyone, but if you prefer something rugged and minimal, consider The Ridge Wallet. It's made of durable aluminum, so it's not the best to sit on if you're a back-pocket user. But if you carry a backpack, wear heavy-duty work pants, or keep your wallet in your front pocket, keep reading.
The slim design allows for you to carry up to 12 cards, making it the perfect wallet for eliminating clutter. Cards slide into the wallet at the top and can be accessed by pushing up on the cutout at the bottom. They'll come out in a fanning motion, and from there, you can easily grab whichever card you need.
The back of the wallet is where you'll find the cash strap or money clip. I personally prefer the cash strap because it seems a little more secure than the clip design. And, when you're not carrying any cash, it doubles as a good spot to keep things you'd want quicker access to, like a Metro card or bus tickets.
Even at full capacity, the wallet is slim enough to fit in your front pocket comfortably and takes up noticeably less room than any leather wallet on this list.

Best for lots of cash: Bellroy Note Sleeve
When searching for the best wallet for guys who carry a lot of cash, we considered not only how many bills a wallet can hold but also which types of bills it can hold. That's because a lot of the time, cash carrying happens while traveling, so you're not just dealing with American bills.
With a 4.02-inch height, the Bellroy Note Wallet can hold US dollars, Australian dollars, and taller bills such as British pounds and Euros. You'll appreciate it if you frequently travel to or live in a country where this is an issue. Additionally, it features a coin holder for all your non-paper currency.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
I appreciate that my US dollars are completely out of sight when in the Bellroy Note Sleeve. Although low-profile wallets are designed to accommodate US dollar bills, I've found that they can still protrude from the top when you have a lot of bills. I could fit more than 10 bills in the Note Wallet without any problem.
You'll also find ample sleeves for your essential cards, with an easy-pull tab to help get your cards out of a tight compartment.
Best money clip upgrade: Leatherology Bifold with Money Clip
If you're looking for a super low-profile option that's a bit safer to carry than a traditional money clip, the Leatherology Bifold with Money Clip is the best alternative.
It's constructed like a classic bifold but reduces bulk by removing the billfold storage in favor of a money clip. The design allows more than 6 cards and a decent amount of cash.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
I've always used a traditional wallet, but with cashless payment methods like Apple Pay and CashApp, I tend to carry much less cash than I once did. I love that this bifold still feels like a traditional wallet, but only allows me to carry the necessities — there's no extra room for old receipts and useless business cards.
It comes in smooth leather and premium full-grain tumbled leather options, but I would recommend the premium leather if you're looking a material that will hide blemishes and age well. The standard leather is still of great quality, but the smooth finish makes it susceptible to visible scratches and wear marks with repeated use.
Best passport wallet: Bellroy Travel Folio
A passport wallet can't replace your daily carry wallet, but it is essential for travel. Its purpose is to keep all of your important things in one place, and when you're moving through a bustling airport with other belongings like luggage, it's critical that nothing gets misplaced or lost.
Amir Ismael/Business Insider
Bellroy's Travel Foilo has ample space for two passports, cards, cash, boarding passes, and other small documents you might need while traveling. Its zippered design ensures everything is secure. My favorite feature is the included pen, which comes in handy for customs paperwork you usually have to fill out on the plane before landing.
I've been using the same Bellroy Travel Folio for over 6 years, and while the leather has minor scratches from use, it's still in excellent condition.
Best handcrafted: Tanner Goods Utility Bifold
Tanner Goods started out making belts using old-school hand tools in Portland, Oregon. While the tools and techniques may have changed since then, the brand maintains a true sense of craftsmanship and heritage.
They handcraft the Utility Bifold in Minnesota from a sturdy 3.5 ounces of vegetable-tanned English Bridle leather. Bridle leather is both super durable (it was, after all, made to stand up to horse sweat and the elements) and extremely handsome, and will only get better with age. They burnish and wax the leather wallet to bring out its natural beauty and for added longevity.
Inside, four card pockets hold two cards each, and you'll find a traditional bill pocket and two additional hidden pockets. While this isn't a minimalist wallet, it still fits in your front pocket. Tanner Goods really stands behind its products, offering a limited lifetime warranty. This wallet doesn't have lots of bells and whistles, but it is elegant, very well made, and will last you for years to come. There are 11 color choices, but I'd recommend the natural or saddle tan in keeping with the spirit of the piece.
Best lightweight: Mighty Wallet Rich Black Minimalist
Carrying the bare essentials in a Mighty Wallet is like wearing an envelope in the shape of a wallet. The wallet debuted in the MoMA Design Store and is made of the paperlike material Tyvek. Tyvek has the consistency and weight of paper, but is much more durable than Manila. It's also water- and tear-resistant, so it won't be ruined if you happen to run it through the wash in your jean pockets.
Upon first impression, it may look more like a novel origami wallet than the best lightweight wallet to hold your valuables securely. But its eight expandable compartments are expertly angled, so everything is easily accessible and compacted. It only weighs 0.265 ounces — that's lighter than 2 credit cards— and is so miniature that I could sit down with it in my back pocket without feeling lopsided.
What to look for in men's wallets
A great place to start when looking for a new wallet is to clean out your old one first. Once you've gone through and tossed out the aforementioned random items you may have collected, you can get a visual sense of what size wallet you need and what items you want to prioritize carrying (cash, cards, receipts, etc.).
The wallet's material is another consideration. A good quality full-grain leather wallet may be a bit of a financial investment, but it will last you for years and only gets better as it ages, taking on a beautiful patina. That said, leather can stretch over time, especially if you overstuff your wallet. Today, wallets come in all kinds of materials, so if you are an overstuffer, consider one made of aluminum.
Closures can also be an important aspect to consider. Do you lose items easily? Maybe a zippered or magnetic closure is your best option. Take some time to consider what's best for you.
| Our pick | Bulk factor | Standout features | Main drawback |

| Best for passports: Bellroy Travel Folio | Bulky | Holds passports, documents, zip closure, travel-ready organization | Not suitable for daily carry |
| Best handcrafted: Tanner Goods Utility Bifold | Medium-bulky | Thick bridle leather, handcrafted build, lifetime durability | Lacks modern features |
| Best lightweight: Mighty Wallet Minimalist | Ultra-slim | Extremely light (Tyvek), water- and tear-resistant, flexible | Extremely casual, light capacity |
FAQs
What makes a high-quality wallet?
It comes down to materials and construction. For leather, look for a wallet completely made of full-grain leather, which is the outer layer of the hide and is more durable, or top grain, which comes from a different layer of the hide and is thinner, more pliable, and more stain resistant than full-grain leather. Look for straight stitching using a thick thread. A long warranty is also a good sign since it means the company stands behind its products.
Do I need an RFID-blocking wallet?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. It's essentially wireless technology that allows a reader device to track or receive data. While credit cards do have RFID chips, there's very little evidence to show that criminals are using RFID readers to access your personal or financial information (data leaks and breaches are the bigger issue). While security experts say there's no harm in protecting yourself with an RFID-blocking wallet, the short answer is that you probably don't need it.
How much does a good wallet cost?
A high-quality full-grain leather wallet should cost between $80 to $125+. A top-grain leather wallet should run you a little less. For an item you use every day, and that will last you years, that's not a bad cost over its lifetime.
What is a minimalist wallet?
As the name suggests, it's a more compact version of a traditional wallet, specifically designed to be smaller, lighter, and thinner, and is often meant for your front pocket rather than the back pocket.
What are the benefits of carrying a slimmer wallet?
Not only is a slimmer wallet easier to carry in any pocket, but it can also improve your posture. Carrying a thick wallet that only fits in your back pocket can throw off your posture when sitting down. While it may seem minor, years of bad posture can have negative long-term effects.
How should I care for a leather wallet?
Maintaining a leather wallet is similar to maintaining a leather jacket or shoes. If it gets dirty, you can spot clean it with a damp microfiber towel. To maintain the suppleness of the material, it's also recommended to use a natural, colorless leather conditioner instead of a color-based shoe polish.
